Industrial Tapes & Fabrics (P) Ltd is manufacturing INTAF Polyglass Tape in India since 1985 in Technical Collaboration with MagneTek PEI, USA. INTAF Polyglass Tape is a high strength moisture resistant fiber glass banding tape available in thermal index of 200°C & 155°C. The tape is used for application in Traction Motors, Rotors, Transformers and Commutators. INTAF Polyglass Tape has high tensile strength glass yarn laid parallel, treated with catalysed polyester resin formulation to produce a non wove tape with high tensile, high modulus and low elongation It is supplied in B stage, semi cured condition. The tape is available in various width between 5mm to 100mm. The standard thickness of the tape is 0.30mm. Upon request resin rich tape is also manufactured. The tape is being successfully used in 35 countries world wide. INTAF Polyglass Tape is approved by RDSO, Ministry of Railway.

Application on Transformers

The use of INTAF Polyglass Tape tape for the consolidation of transformer laminated cores has eliminated core bolts and reduced loss. It is supplied in B stage, semi cured condition and when cured it becomes compatible with mineral oils and chlorinated compounds. The cured tape has resistance against transformer oil, synthetic insulation liquids and SF-6 gas. Curing can be done manually by hot air gun or can also take place during normal heat treatment of transformer. The tape is normally applied manually on assembled transformer core plates in form of previously wound assembled or by being applied layer by layers on the core. Tape width of 40mm & 50mm is mostly used for application on transformer.

Application on Traction Motors/Rotors

INTAF Polyglass Tape is used for banding on the end-winding of traction motors & rotors of generators, designed to replace steel banding, greatly reducing the hazards associated with handling steel banding and offers lower material costs, good insulation properties and reduced application labour. The tape is suitable for both hot and cold application. Certain advantage occurs if the tape is `hot applied’. During the cure the resin flows, filling voids and the air, forming into a fully cured/rigid band with hard smooth resin rich surface. The cured structure is a homogenous laminate with a smooth, resin rich surface that offers excellent track and arc resistance and eliminates flashover. The tape is widely used by All Indian Railway, windmill generator manufacturers.
