Honeywell announces Flight Management System Software

Honeywell has announced the industry’s first Flight Management System software to provide advanced GPS-enabled flight information and compliance – including access to routes in congested air spaces and oceanic airways. With its single software upgrade, the pilot’s workload is significantly reduced and more direct approaches are available to the autopilot, saving time and fuel.

The software provides conformity for RNP SAAAR (Required Navigation Performance Special Aircraft and Aircrew Authorization Required), WAAS-LPV (Wide Area Augmentation System-Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance) reception, and FANS (Future Air Navigation System).

This advanced Flight Management System software offers three key operational features in a single software package. Honeywell’s 6.1 and 7.1 versions of the FMS software enable more than 1,000 LPV and RNP approaches to be flown to lower minimums during inclement weather and provide conformity for landings in congested airspace and difficult terrain.

The 6.1 software upgrade for aircraft with Honeywell’s FMZ-2000 flight management system and 7.1 software upgrade for operators of the Primus Epic avionics suite will be available from the beginning 2009 on selected platforms.

Software features:
  • RNP SAAAR – Allows landings in congested air space and difficult terrain. With FAA authorisation, business jet pilots can fly safer and more direct approaches and departures, and in doing so increase operational efficiencies and reduce operating costs, noise and emissions.
  • WAAS-LPV – Offers GPS vertical guidance for lower minimums during a GPS approach. More than 1,000 approaches are enabled through the WAAS GPS Space-Based Augmentation System (SBAS). Pilots will now be able to accept the LPV approaches for lower landing minimums.
  • FANS – Creates a radar-like environment in key oceanic regions and enables data link communications to Air Traffic Control providing route flexibility, reduced crew workload and more closely controlled arrival and departure times.
