The Elecrama- 2008 was inaugurated today (January 18, 2008) at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregoan, by R.W. Patil, Minister of Power, Maharashtra. Vimal Mahendru (Chairman IEEMA), RV Shahi, (Secretary, Union Ministry of Power), S. C. Bhargava (President IEEMA), and M Venketaraman (Vice President IEEMA) were among the speakers at this grand opening.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahendru said, “This edition of Elecrama is bigger and better. The scale of this event is breathtaking.” This time around the event is accommodating 600 stalls in an area spanning around 50,000 square metres. Altogether 1,013 exhibitors are showcasing their products and services at this trade show.
This event is meant to showcase products and services of various companies and power players, and find ways to deliver packages that give equal power to all.
Mahendru said, “This event in the present format is witnessing a surge in foreign participation with 30% growth as compared to the previous edition.’’ Foreign participants include China, Germany, Italy, Korea, Taiwan, Latin & North America, Africa, Australasia, and Middle East among others.
The IEEMA member directory and IEEMA exhibitor directory were launched by the chief guests, R.W. Patil and R.V. Shahi, respectively, at the inauguration ceremony.
R V Sahi, in his key note address, emphasized the need to solve power problems, which is still out of reach for majority of the rural areas. “Even though the previously existing 56% power scarcity has come down to 50%, there is still a long way to go,” he said. According to him the generation, transmission, and distribution in the power sectors needs well-planned attention.
During his tenure as the BSES chief he had pointed out the necessity for extended guarantee on the metering equipments and he expressed his satisfaction on the present scenario for the same.
He said IEEMA has grown from strength to strength since the last six decades. The number of manufacturers listed and the annual turnover generated by its members have been substantial.
Sahi underscored the need for Ultra Mega Projects for the state and central governments. This is because around 120,000 MW power lies with the states and feels funds will not be a constraint. He further emphasized the need for effective customer services, theft control, upgrading technology, and high-end transmission that sums up to total power quality.
D. W. Patil called upon the participants to come up with innovative and extensive energy-conserving equipments. He highlighted the need of the hour – fuel efficiency for power generation.
