The India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2007 was ceremoniously declared open here at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on Wednesday. The fair was inaugurated by President of India Mrs. Pratibha Patil in the morning. Though the show will formally start for general public from 16th of this month, it has started attracting brisk participation from businessmen for the initial two days.
With the theme being "Food Processing and Agro based industries", every state has a food stall in front of their pavilion serving traditional food from the state. The show also displayed a lot of handicraft from various states, but primarily packaged food products were given the maximum attention from the exhibitors.
There were also other product as well like jute, micro, small and medium enterprise product and others. For the day one, the pavilion sponsored by Ministry of Power, Government of India, in hall number six was the centre of attraction.
The power sector exhibits were organised under the theme of "Power to the People". The nodal agency behind this pavilion was National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). According to NTPC spokesperson, this was for the first time that conventional and non-conventional players from the public as well as the private power sector were showcasing their products under one roof.
The majority of the exhibitors at the show were from the public sector but private players like Reliance and Essar also made their presence. Nuclear Power Corporation Of India Limited (NPCIL) for the first time showcased the prototype of their plants at the fair.

Being the first private company that was selling its capabilities to the government, the company was all set to establish three new power plants of 1200 MW in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Jharkhand.
Though ESSAR has been allotted coal mines in Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand by the government, the one in Gujarat will be using imported coal from either Australia or Indonesia.
