It's show time in Delhi

Thomex.com

August seems to be the month of tradeshows in Delhi, literally. As the weather cools down and offers a magnificent monsoon-view to the Capital, it’s time for some real business. One of India’s premium event venues, Pragati Maidan has become the centre of all activities. There are four shows being organised in the Capital simultaneously- Lift and Escalator Expo, International Franchise & License expo, Mediaexpo and International Property Expo.

The shows Office Expo and Gift Expo were clubbed with Media expo. Organised by Media Exposition & Events from August 2-4, 2008 the show has been attracting maximum number of visitors because of its general interest products. Attendance at the show nonetheless, is much like Sensex - sensitive to events around the world. The recent bomb blasts in Gujarat, and the news of fire at Pragati Maidan during eIndia had its impact on the ongoing show.

"We have been receiving calls from delegates enquiring about the fire in Pragati Maidan. It has been hard explaining that it was a small fire and that the venue is safe from any untoward incidents," said Himani Gulati of Media Exposition & Events, the organiser of the show. She said that as a result of bomb blasts in Gujarat many of the delegates from the state could not participate in the show.

Explaining the motive behind organising three shows simultaneously Himani said, "We wanted to provide a common platform where businessmen and visitors could get all the solutions at one place, whether it's office automation, advertising options or winning clienteles through corporate gifts," she said.

Organised over 125,000 sq feet floor area, the three shows witnessed diverse group of participants. In the Media expo alone there were 130 exhibitors representing 400 brands. Office expo and Gift Expo had 50 exhibitors each. Attended by large number of prominent manufacturers, the show also had international participation from countries like US, Japan, Singapore, and Dubai as the direct participants. New Zealand and Germany participated in association with their Indian partners.

Gaurav Kumar of HP who had booked the largest space at the show was upbeat of his new launches. A second-time participant at the show, Gaurav said, "We are displaying all our major products including the latest printer in which Shahrukh Khan is our brand ambassador. We are getting good response and feel that participation in the show made a perfect business sense."

One of the reasons, Gaurav said his Company took part in the exhibition was to educate people and create awareness of the products the Company launched recently. "There were large number of people, including individuals and corporate, who came to enquire about our new products," said Gaurav.

A similar response was echoed by Abhishek Bhatnagar of Savi Vision who showcased Professional LCD Display at the show. "We received more than 500 visitors on the first day and most of them seemed to be serious buyers," he said.

Detailing the profiles of the visitors Bhatnagar said, "The visitors were highly educated and knew about the products and the technology equally well. They were from government agencies, corporate world and general public." In terms of serious and non-serious buyers, according to Bhatnagar, the ratio was 60 to 40.

Apsom Infotex, a Haridwar-based company, which had put on display the printing machines of Roland, ColourJet and MultiCam drew a huge gathering. An all-time participant in the shows, Sameer Bhargava said, "The companies we represent have good reputation and are known brands – the reason people are interested in our products." Satisfied with the response, he said the show offered a good opportunity to them.

Kiran Patil of Aver Optoelectronics, manufacturer & importers of LED Display Screen/Walls, LED Lights and allied energy saving products said that he was more than happy with the response he received at the show. A first-time participant in the show, Patil had launched one of his products in Chennai and was here to popularise it in North India. "Looking at the initial response, I am sure we will be able to make a good presence in North India," he said expressing optimism.

Most of the tradeshows reviews on your website are of events happening in Delhi. There are other events dealing with various segments in othe cities. It will be nice if you could give us the review of those events also. I have a query - Is it possible to make the organisers of such events accountable for the damage done to exhibitors? Can someone write on this?
