Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the 6th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas here on Tuesday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Inaugurating the conclave, the Prime Minister applauded the role of Indian Americans in the nuclear deal and expressed his gratitude to the NRIs, specifically the Indian Americans in drumming support in favour of India.

Manmohan Singh further commended the role of NRIs who were showcasing their talents at the wide spectrum of global workforce.

The 6th conclave of NRIs focussed on the conditions of Indian women, especially in the rural areas. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister citied the remarkable achievements of NRI women like Indra Nooyi, Sunita Williams, Kalpana Chawla and Jhumpa Lahiri in their respective fields.

The Prime Minister said that India salutes the achievements of its diaspora and was proud of the impact they are making on the global scenario. This has surely opened a new hope for the Indian women, the Prime Minister said.
